I have been photographing babies for over 13 years now. I have been in my current space for 4 years so I thought it was time for an update!
As a natural light photographer, the available light is absolutely essential when choosing a space for my newborn photography sessions. My studio is ready for all light conditions, and in the summer I add diffusers to the extra sunlight that comes in. In the colder months I have extra heaters to make it warm and cosy for happy content little bundles. 

My studio is kitted out with everything we will need for your baby photography session, and more!
Whilst your beautiful little one will be at the centre of every single photo that I take, I do have a gorgeous collection of props, wraps and outfits to make those photos just that little bit more special. It is my job to work with your baby to create the most beautiful, natural images for you to treasure forever.

​Your Photos Become More Valuable Over Time

Long after the children have grown, your photographs remain. They become the memories you revisit for years to come.

Professional photographs are usually the ones that are passed down through generations, printed on walls, added to albums, and treasured in ways we often don’t fully realise until time has passed.

Photography is one of the few investments from a special season of life that actually increases in emotional value over time.

​ But where to look next? How much is a baby or family photography session going to cost? This is a huge consideration and your budget plays a huge part in making this decision.

Since I started my business over 13 years ago, my pricing has always been clear and up front. There are no viewing appointments that get you to spend more on your photos than you can afford. I know many photographers successfully work like this, but its not for me, and it likely isn't for you either.. When I make a large purchase I need to know the costs upfront, not how much COULD this cost me. A huge difference in my pricing to most others, is that you chose your package when you book in. This way you know exactly how much it is going to cost you, however this does not stop you adding on additional photos or products should you wish to at a later date, but this absolutely NO PRESSURE and viewing your images is done online in the comfort of your own home giving you the chance to choose your images in your own time.

I have clear set packages to choose from when you book your photography session. Each package includes the photography session and some images. The amount of images included depends on the price of the package that you choose. Newborn, baby and family photography sessions have the choice of 3 packages. Cake smash photography sessions have 2 package options.

Without a doubt, the most rewarding part of my job is watching the tiny babies that I photograph grow up and turn into their own little characters and getting to capture these gorgeous memories.

I often see babies come back for their first birthday, and some families continue their journey with me long that, so to the families that have chosen me to capture their story time and time again I am forever grateful, this is my ultimate reward.

One particular little client has recently been to me for his 16th photography session, and he is only 8 years old! I wanted to share some of his beautiful memories with you all from his photography sessions over the past 8 years. He has had every sort of session that I offer from newborn to family to all the special ones in-between; daffodils, bluebells and even his watermelon smash (which I used to offer before I started doing cake smashes) for his 1st birthday.

I first met him back in 2017 for his new born photography session after meeting his parents at a baby event that I attended in Upton just beforehand when they were expecting him.

Later on that year he was my first ever outdoor Christmas baby! 
2017 was my first year of offering outdoor Christmas mini sessions, which I still offer now along with my ever popular Christmas mini sessions in the studio.

In 2018 he came came for a bluebell photography session. Bluebell photo sessions in Dorset are my most popular outdoor sessions.  I do mini sessions in evenings in April/May.

Shortly after the bluebells was his first birthday session. I was so excited that his Mum chose my signature watermelon smash session to celebrate.
​I used to offer outdoor watermelon smash sessions before I introduced cake smashes back in 2022.

I was lucky enough to see him again for a third time in 2018 for his Christmas photography session.

Our next session was in Spring 2019 , when I started offering special Daffodil mini photography sessions. 

Shortly after that we met again at the Bluebells.

In the summer of 2019 he turned 2 and we celebrated with a family photography session at Sandbanks beach, my favourite outdoor location in Dorset.

We met for a 4th time in 2019 for his third Christmas photography session.

in 2020 Covid got in our way of so many things and we almost missed out entirely this year! But we just managed to get a mini session in just before Christmas, yay! 

In 2021 we managed to get a bluebell session in and then again a Christmas one.
I can't believe he is now at school!

In 2022 we met at the daffodils again. We enjoyed playing in the flowers and getting some more up to date precious memories.

In December 2022 we met at Wareham forest again for our annual Christmas photography session. I can't believe how much he has grown since we last met in the Spring!

In October 2023 he came to my studio for the first time for his annual Christmas photography session.
​We had lots of fun!

In December 2024 I got to see him again in the studio for his Christmas session.
We had so much fun, and he told me all about how he was looking forward to it and that he loves our photoshoots together!

Here is to capturing many more adventures as you grow! I can't wait for our next session together whenever that may be.

Quite often I speak to parents who have just missed the "newborn" stage for a photography session. This can be for many reasons, sometimes things do not quite go to plan and they are just not ready to go out to a photography session with their brand new baby at 1 week old, sometimes they have simply chosen  to wait a little longer. 

I photograph babies between 6 weeks and 5 months old (pre sitting) in a very similar way to newborns here at my beautiful baby photography studio in Poole, Dorset.

This beautiful little one was 6 weeks old when he came to see me recently.

For this particular session, the parents opted for a "newborn" package so they could have a longer session and we got a beautiful selection of awake and sleepy images, much like we would for a younger newborn photography session.
If your baby is still tiny and very young we always discuss your options before we book your session in so you can choose which type of session is right for you.

If your baby is older, you will get slightly different images , you can see lots more examples on my website or you might like to read another recent blog post about a 4 month old baby photography session.

At 6 weeks old baby's are usually a lot more alert and their eyes are open for longer during the day.
We got the perfect combination of wide awake and sleepy photos during his session.

Is your baby turning one soon?
I bet you are wondering where their first year has gone.
They may have learnt to sit up, feed themselves, crawl, and may have even taken their first few steps or you have heard their first few words.
What a year, and you will never have another one like it.

Have you thought about the perfect way to celebrate their first birthday?
Most people choose a special day out or something fun to do rather than a party now.
Party's are great fun but although they won't remember this special occasion, you will, and you will want to create some memories for you to look back on with them. 
What better way than a cake smash photography session!
You get to sit and watch the fun and you get to keep the beautiful photographs as memories for years to come.

The chances are your baby will not demolish the entire cake, it may even be their first taste of cake!
This means there is a lot of untouched fresh cake leftover. I hate waste, so I wrap it up to take home with you to enjoy later on! 

​My set ups consist of natural, mostly homemade washable decorations. A lot of my decorations including the beautiful rag bunting featured in this session are even made from upcycled materials.
I do not use balloons, streamers or other disposable decorations so there is absolutely no plastic waste from a cake smash session with me.
You also get a beautiful engraved wooden spoon to take home and re use or save as a special memory of their first birthday.

I have an ever growing collection of beautiful, natural cake smash props for you including a selection of outfits. 
The neutral decorations means that your beautiful baby will be the pure focus of every image that I take.

Your session can also include bath tub time which is an extra cute way to get your baby clean after the cake smashing fun and creates even more gorgeous photographs for you to treasure. 

I am not sure who has the most fun at cake smash sessions, your baby, yourself, or me! 

You can choose to have a cake smash session either on or around your baby's first birthday, or a few weeks beforehand so that you will have the photos back in time for their birthday. The choice is yours.

I have had my business for almost 9 years now and 8 weeks ago I moved house, complete with the most beautiful newborn photography studio attached to the back of my home.

I couldn't be happier with how it looks and feels, so I really hope you want to read on to see for yourself too.

In January 2022 I will have been running Samantha Prewett Photography for 9 years!

I was so fortunate to have a gorgeous light open plan space in my previous home , where I started offering newborn photography sessions almost 9 years ago.
As well as my family, my business has also grown and it was time to move into a bigger home with a separate newborn and baby photography studio.

I officially opened my studio in Poole (less than 2 miles away from where I lived before) at the end of October and immediately fell in love with it.  My first session was absolutely everything I could have wished for and more. You can read about it here if you would like to.

As a natural light photographer, the available light is absolutely essential when choosing a space for my newborn photography sessions.
I spent a lot of time looking at houses, and at different times of the day to assess the light coming in through the windows (and as it turns out , even the roof!)

My photography studio has a beautiful brand new sofa which doubles up as a comfy place for parents to chill out during their session (whilst I take care of their baby and create beautiful memories) and a place for the parent and baby photos. I have found myself migrating to the sofa over the past few years rather than a backdrop as parents are more comfortable and relaxed, so this helps produce beautiful natural images. It also makes the perfect setting for cosy family photos should you have any older sibling(s) that you might wish to bring to your newborn session.

​I have a lovely brand new coffee machine , which uses recyclable pods (I am working on getting reusable ones) and plastic free snacks available, as well as cold drinks.

I have wi-fi access for you to use, with the password on the wall.

The studio is attached to the back of my house, with the kitchen right next to it should you need to warm up bottles. 

I am a naturally clean and tidy person so you should feel at ease if you need to use the bathroom whilst you are here. I ensure this is thoroughly cleaned before each photography session. 

I have built up a stunning collection of neutral co ordinating props, outfits and wraps over the past 9 years. I love putting the natural colours and textures together to create beautiful set ups that compliment your baby. Your baby is always the focus of every single image I take, not the props.

It's not often that I photograph babies at this age, but I occasionally get people who have "missed" the newborn photography stage. Babies tend to be more awake, active and less curled up at this age so photographs are slightly different to a newborn session. Every baby is so different though, and at 6 weeks we try to get as many "newborn" style photographs as possible. 

This beautiful little girl came to see me very recently, her Mum had just missed the "newborn" photography stage, but was keen to get some sleepy photos. Which we managed to, along with some gorgeous awake ones too. She was small for her age so still fit into my newborn outfits and some of my newborn sized baskets. I do also have props and outfits for babies up to 5 months so we would have worked with these if she didn't fit into the smaller ones. 

In fact her session was rather like most of my newborn photography sessions, she had lots of cuddles, feeds and a couple of naps. I tend to take "newborns" between 1-2 weeks, but I will never refuse anyone and say their baby is too old for a photography session. Every stage of a baby is equally beautiful to capture, even if your baby is older than 6 weeks, we can still get similar photos, maybe not the sleepy ones, but I work with your baby to create the perfect selection of images for you. I have had babies at 5 months sleep during their sessions, so it all depends how they are on the day.

Baby photography sessions are suitable if your baby is between 6 weeks and 5 months (pre sitting) and packages start from £85. They last around an hour, as babies tend to be a little more settled at this age, but we sometimes go a little over this time, which is completely fine too. A photography session for a 4/5 month old baby is very different to a 6 week old, they will more than likely be pushing themselves up by this age so that makes for very different but equally beautiful photographs. Last month here at Samantha Prewett Photography in Poole, Dorset I photographed the lovely little Erin, little sister to Elliot who has his own blog; Entertaining Elliot! 
It is not often that I photograph babies this age, as they are inbetween the "normal" photography ages for newborn and baby photography. Seen as I have a more natural style and I don't have a strict posing style like many other photographers I thought why not! And I am very glad that I did. As you can see here,  we managed to get some beautiful shots during our session.  

At this age babies are starting to get more interactive and we managed to get the perfect mix of cute little expressions as well as some sleepy shots.

I usually take babies from 6 weeks for "baby" sessions as these last 1 hour , where as a "newborn" session is for around 7 days and lasts between 2-4 hours. This is not to say that I won't take babies in between these ages, as you can see here. If you are interested in having a session when your baby is between these ages we would have a conversation first to see which package would be best. 

Erin's session was wrapped up in around 1.5 hours, I am always happy to go on a little more than 1 hour for a baby session if required as I am aware babies are still quite unsettled and needs lots of cuddles,feeding and changing at this age.
