Newborn photography on the day that baby was bornThis is quite possibly one of, if not THE most exciting blog posts that I have ever written. This was supposed to be the birth photography session that I have been waiting many years to do, but instead I ended up helping to deliver the baby! I loved it so much and I want to thank Mum and Dad for letting me be there to experience this with them. It all started at 330am on 16th June 2025 when my friend called me as she was in labour. I was on call to drive to her to hospital as well as photograph the birth. I jumped out of bed, quickly got dressed then drove to Wimborne, only to arrive to her laying down in the door way about to push the baby out! I didn't have time to think about getting my camera out of the car, I just helped her and her husband deliver the baby. The paramedics soon arrived after the baby, and took them both to Bournemouth hospital. I followed with their daughter in my car and spent the day with them before bringing them home around 430pm. It was an incredible experience, and I don't even feel like I "missed" out taking the birth photos, I feel like being there in the moment was so much better than photographing the moment on this occasion. I have wanted to photograph a birth for at least the past 8 years, not for work, just for me, and I feel like I have achieved what I wanted to, being there was so much better. I still got to take some beautiful photos of the baby on the same day she was born, just a few hours old. 7 day old newborn photography sessionOne week later, to the day, my friend came to the studio with her baby for her newborn photography session. This was an extra special session for me as you can imagine. I would like to thank my wonderful friend and her husband again for allowing me to be there, this experience is something that I will never forget.
And as for the birth photography? No, I do not offer it, and no I will not start to. It was purely a personal thing that I wanted to do, it was never a work thing. Newborn photography in the studio? Yes I can definitely help with that, that is my work thing, and I have welcomes babies as young as just 4 days old in the studio before. !
