Baby Photography FAQ's
If you have been thinking about booking a baby photography session with me, you probably have some questions about how and when to book in, what happens before, during and after your session, and a possibly more. I have created this page of frequently asked questions to help you, but if you have any other questions that I have not covered please do not hesitate to get in touch. I always love to talk to clients about their photography sessions before they book in.
How much is a baby photography session , and what is included?
> You can find all of my pricing information on my baby pricing page, all of my packages include the photography session and some photographs so there is no need to pay any extra on top of the package prices.
What age should my baby be for a baby photography session?
> I photograph babies here between 6 weeks and 4/5 months in a very similar way to newborns. The difference between a 6 week old and a 4/5 month old is incredible. At 6 weeks we are still likely to get a few sleepy shots and we may still be able to curl your baby into some of my baskets, so the session will be much like a newborn photography session. When are when they get older we might get a few smiles and they can usually push themselves up on their tummy from 4 months so the type of photographs you will get will be very different. I still follow the same natural neutral style as in my newborn sessions but your baby will be more interactive. You may wish to read about a 6 week baby session in a recent blog post. Or a 4 month old baby session in another recent blog post. As you can see these images are very similar to those of a newborn session, for which baby is usually around 7 days old. You can find lots of examples of older babies in my baby gallery.
> If your baby is sitting but not yet crawling, this is the perfect opportunity for a sitter session. You can see some of my beautiful sitter images here
When should I book in my baby photography session?
>Most people book a baby session because they have either missed the newborn stage or wanted to wait a little while until baby is more interactive. I would always suggest booking in as soon as you can, when you first think about having professional photographs taken.
Can I choose which photographs/ set ups I would like to use at my baby photography session?
> Absolutely. I have a large selection of props, outfits and wraps for you to choose from when you come to my studio for your baby photography session. Please do bear in mind that all my photography sessions are totally baby led so I can't guarantee any particular "poses" , every baby is different, and also the difference between a 6 week old baby and 4 month old baby is huge so you won't get the same photographs.
What day / time will my baby photography session take place?
> If you wish to come to me for your baby photography session, please consider my working hours when you book in. I only photograph babies during the week, during school hours. Weekends are reserved for family photography sessions, and spending time with my own family. Due to using natural light I also need to be specific about the time of your session and unfortunately there is no flexibility here. Baby sessions start at either 10 or 11am. Sessions last for around 1 hour but if we need longer to stop for feeds etc then they can be a little longer, I am not strict with sticking to 1 hour this is just a guide. Also your baby is more alert at this age so will more than likely have had enough after an hour anyway.
Should I bring anything with me to our baby photography session?
> I have everything you should need here, apart from your usual changing bag items! If you have any thing specific you would like to include in the photographs then please do bring them along. Please check with me first about large items though. I do find most people like to bring a couple of outfits to their baby sessions but please don't feel you need to as I have some here and most are done semi nude/ with wraps or little pants on. It all depends which style you would like.
Can I bring my other child(ren) to our baby photography session?
> Yes, it is possible to include a sibling photograph in your baby photography session. Please bear in mind that my baby photography sessions take place during school hours, so it depends how old your other children are.
Do I need to come back to view and select my images?
> No. This is done via a private online gallery. This gives you time to choose your favourites, without any pressure or hard sell. You can also share your gallery with other family members should you wish.
How long does it take to get my photographs after my baby photography session?
> Your online gallery will be available within 4 weeks of your photography session. This will stay active for 4 weeks. Once you have chosen your favourite images, please allow 4 weeks for your prints and USB to arrive, or 7 days if you have chosen the email only package.
