Outdoor family photography in DorsetSpring is finally in the air, and I am starting to think ahead to all the beautiful family memories that I will be capturing this year. What ever the age of your children, and size of your family, an outdoor photography session is the perfect way to capture beautiful moments that you will treasure for many years. I have been photographing families from all over Dorset, and far beyond (I have even had a family on holiday from Texas!) for over 12 years now, and still every year I get excited around now when the nicer weather is beginning to show its face. I love being outdoors, and your family will love it too. The children are free to run around and I love getting involved whilst capturing beautiful memories for you. Being invited along to spend time with your family is a true privilege and one I am extremely grateful for. Knowing that the memories that the photographs that I capture will bring so much joy to you and your family for many years to come is the icing on the cake for me. When did you last have a family photoshoot? Was it in a studio? Or was is outdoors? If you have had both which did you prefer? Maybe you have even had a photography session with me before and are thinking about updating your family album. I would love to show you some of my favourite locations across Dorset so that you can get started on planning your next memory making session with me. SandbanksSandbanks beach in Poole is one of the best beaches in the world. If you ever go there yourself you will see why, the beautiful golden sands and dunes of Sandbanks provide the most stunning backdrop for your next family photography session. If you choose this location, it is worth bearing in mind that it can get extremely busy during the warmer months. Wareham ForestThis location is one of my favourites for autumn and even winter sessions. The forest is always green here, and it is lovely and open, so even when there is not a lot of sunlight we still get gorgeous photos. Likewise, during the summer months, we have the beautiful displays of heather to make use of which I absolutely love. Hengistbury HeadHengistbury Head really does have it all. The beaches might not be quite as golden as Sandbanks, but the scenery more than makes up for it. The heathland on the cliffs makes the most beautiful background and is great for children to run around in whilst I capture those lovely little moments. It even has a boardwalk which I love. Down on the beach there are large rocks which are great to sit and climb on. On a clear day we can even get to see the head in the background too. Other locations / seasonal optionsPerhaps you have a favourite location, a place that is special to your family. I am more than happy to meet you at the location of your choice in Dorset. Or if you would like a seasonal themed photography session there are options such as bluebells, daffodils and wildflowers, depending on the time of year that you would like to choose. ![]() What ever location you choose for your family photoshoot, you will be sure of beautiful memories that you will want to cherish for many years to come.

Without a doubt, the most rewarding part of my job is watching the tiny babies that I photograph grow up and turn into their own little characters. Whilst my main focus on newborn photography , I absolutely love photographing families too. I often see babies come back for their first birthday, and some families continue their journey with me long that, so to the families that have chosen me to capture their story time and time again I am forever grateful, this is my ultimate reward. One particular little client has recently been to me for his 15th photography session, and he is only 7 years old! I wanted to share some of his beautiful memories with you all from his photography sessions over the past 7 years. He has had every sort of session that I offer from newborn to family to all the special ones in-between; daffodils, bluebells and even his watermelon smash for his 1st birthday. I first met him back in 2017 for his new born photography session after meeting his parents at a baby event that I attended in Upton just beforehand when they were expecting him. Later on that year he was my first ever outdoor Christmas baby! In 2018 he came came for a bluebell photography session. Bluebell photo sessions in Dorset are my most popular outdoor sessions. I do mini sessions in evenings in April/May. Shortly after the bluebells was his first birthday session. I was so excited that his Mum chose my signature watermelon smash session to celebrate. I was lucky enough to see him again for a third time in 2018 for his Christmas photography session. Our next session was in Spring 2019 , when I started offering Daffodil photography sessions. Shortly after that we met again at the Bluebells. In the summer of 2019 he turned 2 and we celebrated with a family photography session at Sandbanks beach, my favourite outdoor location in Dorset. We met for a 4th time in 2019 for his third Christmas photography session. in 2020 Covid got in our way of so many things and we almost missed out entirely this year! But we just managed to get a mini session in just before Christmas, yay! In 2021 we managed to get a bluebell session in and then again a Christmas one. I can't believe he is now at school! In 2022 we met at the daffodils again. We enjoyed playing in the flowers and getting some more up to date precious memories. In December 2022 we met at Wareham forest again for our annual Christmas photography session. I can't believe how much he has grown since we last met in the Spring! In October 2023 he came to my studio for the first time for his annual Christmas photography session. We had lots of fun! In December 2024 I got to see him again in the studio for his Christmas session. We had so much fun, and he told me all about how he was looking forward to it and that he loves our photoshoots together! Here is to capturing many more adventures as you grow! I can't wait for our next session together whenever that may be.
I have been doing outdoor Christmas photography sessions for quite a few years now. The children always love it as we get to have a walk around the forest finding nice places to stop for photos. So I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the lovely photos with you and hopefully get you into the Christmas spirit (if you are not already) Christmas sessions are taking place at Wareham Forest this year in October and early November whilst the forest colours are gorgeous and hopefully before it gets too cold! Although sometimes the cold weather works out for the best and as long as it is dry, the frosty weather means that we can get some stunning photos! Another bonus of being outdoors is that the space is endless meaning there is no limit on the amount of people who can be involved. If you would have a larger family and or would like some photos with parents too then an outdoor session is the perfect alternative to one of my Christmas studio session which are limited to 2 children and 1 baby due to space. Christmas mini sessions are just £95 for a 20 minute session and you get all of the digital images included. You wont have to choose your favourites as they are all sent to you via email. I have already done some Christmas photography sessions this year, and have planned to do some more throughout November so there are a very limited amount of spaces left. Please get in touch to book yours today before it is too late.
You won't regret capturing these special memories that you will cherish for years to come, and I guarantee that the kids will love it too! I LOVE photographing extended families. I sell lots of gift voucher that people buy for their parents for a family photography session together. What better gift to give than a beautiful day together at the beach (or elsewhere) and some timeless memories to treasure forever. I spend a lot of time each summer doing these sessions , and I wanted to share a recent one with you all. Being outdoors is so much more fun than in the studio for family sessions. The backdrops are naturally stunning, and you don't have to sit still and pose for every photo. The children can run around and everyone gets to enjoy the fresh air. I offer family photography sessions outside between March and October, so you have the choice between a spring/summer session on the beach or elsewhere, or an autumn session in the forest. When was the last time that you had a photograph taken with your partner? Probably a family wedding, sometime before you had children? Now you have children, everything centres around them, and even if you have had a photography session with them , most if not all of the photos taken would have included your children. I love being able to capture just the grown ups during these photography sessions too. I love to capture natural moments during photography sessions too, it is not all about posing for the camera. Those natural moments are always that ones that will be treasured. If you have a family celebration coming up or would simply like some gorgeous updated family photos, you can find out more about my family photography sessions and my prices here.
I sell beautiful gift voucher which are the ideal gift for special birthdays and Christmas. Recently, I photographed my largest family to date. I do lots of these sessions every Spring/Summer but this was the most people for one session that I have had before. A lovely couple, with their 6 children and their families. I absolutely love these larger family sessions, I know how much the photos will be treasured, even more as the years pass by. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very grey rainy morning! Usually, I would try to re arrange a session when the forecast is bad, but this is not always possible, especially when everyone was already together and probably would not be again for a while. Everyone was amazing during the session, they embraced the weather and we got some lovely photos. I always like to take the opportunity at family photography sessions to get some photos of just the grown ups too. When was the last time you had a photograph taken with your partner? These are just a few of the photos from the session.
To find out more you can visit my family photography area of my website. A few weeks ago I met a lovely family at Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth to capture the latest part of their family story. I met them there 2 years ago when their first born was one , and I had the pleasure of seeing them all again with their new addition who has also just celebrated his first birthday. It means so much to be asked back to photograph beautiful growing families and I am excited to be able to share some of their beautiful images with you all. It was a bit of a windy day so we decided to stay off the actual beach, and look for some more sheltered spots for photos. Fortunately Hengistbury Head has absolutely stunning sand dunes and greenery on the cliffs so we did not miss out at all. I love sand photos with greenery in, I always look for these spots during family photography sessions. Outdoor family photography sessions are the perfect opportunity to get some lovely snuggly family photos, some gorgeous natural portraits of the children and also some fun photos of them playing. They get to run around whilst I follow them capturing some beautiful moments that I know will be treasured for many years to come. I had a lovely time with this family capturing these beautiful memories for them. Hengistbury Head is becoming an ever popular choice for outdoor family photography sessions and I am sure that you can see why. ![]() If you would like more information on my family photography sessions please check out the family photography page on my website. I would love to capture some beautiful memories for you and your family to cherish.

Summer may well now be a distant memory but I still love to look back to recent sessions and look forward to lots more summer family memory making next year across the beautiful Dorset. This beautiful family photography session at Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth, took place just a few weeks ago, on what was surely the last day of summer. We were so fortunate with the beautiful weather on the day, at some points it was even too bright to take photos! Summer beach family photography sessions are definitely one of "my things" Growing up and living on the Dorset coast has made me want to capture families at these beautiful locations creating beautiful, natural memories that I know will be cherished for a lifetime. I usually take families to Sandbanks, which is the closest beach to me, and fortunately one of the most beautiful in the whole world, but Dorset has the most beautiful coastline and there are many more stunning locations to explore. This lovely family requested a session at Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth, which I have to say did not disappoint! I grew up near there so it was so lovely to go back again. I adored this photography session so much, it was such a beautiful day and brought back so many wonderful memories for me of growing up in the area. I am looking forward to taking my children there soon to share the beautiful location with them. It is always extra special when I have already photographed the family and I look forward to seeing how much their little one(s) have grown. I first met this lovely family back in January for their newborn photography session. It was so wonderful to see how much their gorgeous little man has grown this year, and I can't wait to see them again soon to capture the next stage in their story. It means so much to be asked back to photograph families as they grow. This is definitely the most rewarding part of my job. If you would like to find out more about my family photography sessions in Dorset, you can find lots more information on the family section of my website. or please get in touch for a chat.
Over the past 4 years, I have had the absolute pleasure of watching this gorgeous little boy growing from a tiny helpless dependent little newborn baby into an independent adventurous 4 year old big brother throughout our 9 photography sessions together I first met this gorgeous little one back in July 2016 when he was just 14 days old. He came here to Samantha Prewett Photography for his newborn photography session and we have continued to have regular photo sessions ever since. Newborn and family photographyFor his 6 month photography session, I visited their home to capture the next stage in his development. When your baby starts to sit up on their own, its the perfect time for their next photo session. It was so lovely to see how he had changed, and we even took a photo on the same star blanket that they brought to his newborn photography session here with me in Poole. 6 month baby photographyI returned to their family home for his one year birthday celebration photography session. What better way to celebrate than with a birthday cake! This little man is lucky to have a summer birthday so we could do some indoor and outdoor photos during his session. As you can see he loved getting stuck into his cake, and we also managed to get some lovely natural family photographs during this photo session too. First birthday family photographyTwo years isn't always the "easiest" age to photograph, we are long past the stages of being able to gently pose them or get them to sit nicely for their photograph to be taken. So we decided to capture an adventure, one of their favourite places to go as a family, . Sessions like this bring a whole new meaning to professional photography, a snipet of time captured forever. All those lovely memories of what you love to do together professionally captured to look back on for years to come. This is why I thoroughly enjoy photographing your children of all ages, and getting to capture them as they grow is even more rewarding for me, and you. Family photographyIn June 2019 he was promoted to big brother!! I was super excited to hear their news and had been looking forward to this session for a very long time. It means so much when families come back to me with their new babies, even more so when I have been lucky enough to capture their journey over the years. Newborn and sibling photographyIn November 2019, I was invited to capture the latest family memories for this lovely family at their home. Little sister is now 5 months old and he is such an amazing big brother! Family lifestyle photographyOutdoor family photographyWow we have now had 10 sessions together! It has been so lovely seeing how much they both have grown over the past few years. Here are just a few of the photos from their past 2 family location recent sessions: It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know this lovely family over the past 5 years, who I can now proudly call friends and not just clients, and I can't wait for our next adventure together. If you are ready for me to capture the next stage of your family journey, you can check out my family photography page or you can get in touch here. Don't forget you can use your £25 voucher that came with your photographs AND if you have only recently had your newborn session and are not ready for the next stage yet you can even book a session for next year at this years price.
I little while ago I wrote a blog on why I offer newborn photography from my calm welcoming home environment, now I am going to share with you why I don't have offer studio family photography either. We live in such a beautiful place. Dorset has it all, from the beautiful golden beaches of Sandbanks, to the luscious green countryside. I feel truly blessed to have been brought up here, and I can't ever see myself moving away from it. Which is why I absolutely love photographing families outdoors in Dorset. Why have a plain studio backdrop when nature can offer a much more beautiful one, we live here , so lets celebrate it and use the beauty around us to capture some gorgeous natural photographs of your family that you will treasure forever. Outdoor family photography in Dorset is a fun experience, it is not just having your family photographs taken, you will remember the day too. The children will be much more relaxed than if you were to bring them into a photography studio for a traditional family portrait session, and they can play during their session too. You may have a favourite family place that you would like to meet me at, or I can recommend somewhere ( I have my favourites list!) and the time of the year is up to you aswell. I used to think you could only do outdoor family photography sessions during the summer months, but there has not been a month of the year that I have not photographed outside in! That said my absolute favroutire time for outdoor family photography is during the summer evenings, when the light is just starting to settle down for the day is all soft and golden. Family photography is often booked to mark a special occasion, such as your pregnancy, or your baby's first birthday. I have a special section on my website that shows you some options for baby's first birthday, and a maternity section too if you would like to find out more. But I really do believe it is important to have some beautiful family photographs taken when your children are small , even if it not a "special occasion". If outdoor photography isn't really you, I can also come to your home to capture your family in your own surroundings for a family lifestyle photography session. This is sometimes a better option if you would like family photographs taken during the colder months, or if you have a small baby. So what are you waiting for? Let me capture some beautiful family memories for you in the beautiful place we live, Dorset. Please contact me if you would like to book in. Or you can find lots more information, and lots more beautiful photographs in my family photography section of my website. I would love to hear from you to capture some beautiful memories for your family.
I have just completed my third year running of bluebell photography sessions at Pamphill in Wimborne, Dorset. This year I photographed 4 beautiful families in one early evening, it might not have been the sunniest of days , but we had already postponed 3 times so it was then or never so we went for it! I am sure you can agree with me that it was totally worth it. My bluebell mini sessions are exclusively for past clients, the sessions are really short as we already know each other its a little chance to catch up and update their beautiful photograph collections. The special price is also a thank you to them for choosing me to capture their special memories for them AGAIN. I am always happy to photograph new families here also, but we would need a full session, 15 minutes is not enough time to get to know new people and capture some beautiful images for you. I couldn't write this blog without sharing their "look how I have grown" photos! Without a doubt this is the best part of my job; The sessions went amazingly, to say they only had a short time each all the little ones were fantastic. I really enjoyed seeing everyone again, and I hope its not the end of our journey together, it is a real pleasure for me being invited time and time again to capture your beautiful family growing. If you missed out this year (or can't wait to come back next year!) and would like to kept up date with when I will be doing the sessions, please sign up to my monthly newsletter here (the form is right at the bottom of my home page) or if you are a past client you can join my VIP facebook group here. I am thinking about doing wild flower meadow mini sessions for the first time this year, if you are interested please do let me know now as I need enough interest before I look into it further.
This month I had the pleasure of photographing this gorgeous little one again for her 9 month session. I first met her back in January for her newborn photography session here at Samantha Prewett Photography in Poole, Dorset, and this month I photographed her at Upton County Park. It was so lovely to see how much she has grown since January, I feel really privileged to be invited back to photograph babies as they grow and capture these special memories for their families to treasure forever. We started off with a few photos of her and her gorgeous Mummy together, which I am sure you agree are beautiful. Then we took some photos of her on her own in a little wooden box, which she seemed to be quite happy in! Gorgeous don't you think? Baby/family photography packages start from £85 and include some digital images. I tend to photograph outdoors between March and October. If you would like a session over the winter, I would suggest booking a family lifestyle home session, or if you baby is under 5 months I can photograph them here in Poole. If you are interested in booking a family session, you can find out more by visiting my family photography section on my website ,or you can contact me.
A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of capturing some of this beautiful little one's birthday celebrations. I first met her when she was 4 month old, and this time I was invited to their home to capture some gorgeous memories for her first birthday. The session was a total success, we got the perfect mixture of cake smashing and family photographs which I hope will take pride of place in their home next along with her 4 month photographs which I saw on the wall on the way in. We started the session with some family photos , and then some of just her on her own. I am sure you will agree she is absolutely gorgeous, she certainly brightened up my day! Then we moved on to her cake smash, which she loved. She got stuck right in and was not afraid to get messy at all. Then she got in the bath and I packed up to go home. Her family have ordered some more large prints from me, I cant wait to see them when the arrive, I really do love seeing my photographs in print. I know that a lot of people choose to print their own photographs from their sessions, If you have done this I would love to see them on your walls, if you have please do send me a photo over. If you would like me to capture your babies first birthday or any other special occasion, I can either come to you or we can meet at a beautiful outdoor location. For more information please visit my family section.
It's that time of year again. Last year for the first time I managed to get down to the beautiful bluebell woods at Pamphill in Wimborne, Dorset for a photography session. This year I wanted to take my own children down there as it is about time I had a lovely big photo of them on my wall. I started getting messages from past clients about possible bluebell sessions a few weeks ago so I thought why not make an event out of it. And then my bluebell mini sessions were born. We met 2 other families down at Pamphill and spent a bit of time finding some lovely spots for the photographs. I am always careful not to crush the bluebells, unfortunately unlike some other people, as you could see where people had been walking on them. The children had an amazing evening, it was definitely an experience they will remember for a long time. And the other families enjoyed themselves too. I took both of my cameras and gave one to my children so they could have some fun capturing the bluebells too. Needless to say my son absolutely loved it and has not stopped going on about it ever since. He wants to be a photographer like Mummy and take photos of babies. Love him! He took some pretty good photos himself: The bluebells are only around for a few weeks so the window for these sessions is small. I am already looking forward to doing this all again next year. I was very pleased as I managed to get a beautiful photograph of my children (which is rare!) and I am going to put up on the wall. I have one last bluebell session this evening and then that is it for the year. I am still getting enquiries about them so if you are interested please feel free to join my mailing list and I will keep you updated for next year as they will book up fast. if you would like to read about last years bluebell session you can do so here.
I first met the lovely Ethan at his newborn session here at Samantha Prewett Photography, back in July last year. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing his family at his 6 month lifestyle session at their home. Look how much he has changed! I spent just over an hour at their home capturing some beautiful moments for them to treasure. Ethan's parents had some lovely clothes for him, as well as this adorable blanket that was made for him when he was born: We took some shots of Ethan on his own and some family photos during their session. When I visit a client for their lifestyle session , I like to have a look around to find the best places to take photos, especially being a natural light photographer. I was lucky enough to find a conservatory, which is the perfect place at this time of year. So we took most of the photos in there, but we also took some upstairs, as a bed usually makes a lovely location aswell. As indeed you can see here :-) It was such a pleasure to see how much he has grown in the past 6 months, and I am already looking forward to his 1 year session this July. I think Mummy and Daddy have a fun session planned, watch this space!
I first met this lovely family 3.5 years ago when I photographed their eldest as one of my first ever newborns, you may remember him as the little man with all the hair! I still get people commenting on his photo to this day. Then in January this year, their new addition came to see me for his baby session with almost as much hair. Two weeks ago I met them at one of my favourite locations for a family session. We spent an hour together capturing some beautiful memories of them all. During family photography sessions I usually tend to start off with a few family shots, then we go for a walk and a play to get some lovely natural shots of everyone as well as the children alone. Everyone always has a lot of fun. These are just a few of the beautiful shots that we got during our session, there are many more for them to choose from.
Family photography packages start from just £105. Please click here to visit my family photography page. This week I went on a beautiful walk to find the local bluebell woods. I have wanted to do a baby photography session or family photography session here for the past 3 years, and this year I made it! The bluebells at Pamphill, Wimborne were spectacular, there were many more than I expected there to be, and it proved to be a fun session indeed for the almost 2 year old that I took with me. I really would recommend visiting if you are local to Poole, Dorset in the next couple of weeks, it is really beautiful. I am offering specially priced family photography sessions there for the rest of April/beginning of May. Please get in touch if you are interested
